In Argentina’s southern Patagonia, conservationists are working to protect the once-endangered puma. Despite facing challenges from local ranchers who view the big cats as a threat to livestock, environmentalists are striving to promote coexistence between humans and pumas.
The initiative involves tracking the animals with GPS collars and encouraging ecotourism as an alternative source of income for the region.
However, the conflict between conservation efforts and agricultural interests remains a significant hurdle, as evidenced by the recent killing of a monitored puma that strayed onto ranch land.
Al Jazeera’s Teresa Bo reports from Santa Cruz Province, Argentina.
