Danielle Belton, the editor in chief of The Root, would be the new editor in chief of HuffPost, BuzzFeed’s chief government, Jonah Peretti, informed employees on Wednesday.
Ms. Belton, 43, will begin in her new position on April 12, Mr. Peretti mentioned in an inner e-mail that was seen by The New York Occasions. Her appointment was reported earlier by The Day by day Beast.
In his e-mail, Mr. Peretti mentioned BuzzFeed had begun its seek for a brand new high HuffPost editor after it introduced in November that it was buying the web site. He mentioned that they had prioritized discovering a pacesetter with a long-term imaginative and prescient for HuffPost, who would “champion its pressing, compelling and far-reaching journalism.”
Ms. Belton was the primary editor in chief of The Root, the Black information and tradition web site owned by G/O Media. She has written and edited for publications together with theGrio, Essence, The Washington Publish and The Occasions.
Mr. Peretti mentioned that he and BuzzFeed’s editor in chief, Mark Schoofs, supplied Ms. Belton the job final week, and that Ms. Belton would report back to Mr. Schoofs.
The announcement comes two weeks after BuzzFeed laid off 47 HuffPost workers and closed the publication’s Canadian version.
