On Wednesday, Thailand celebrates the festival of Loy Kratong, marking the end of the rainy season. It’s hoped the holiday will bring an uptick in tourist arrivals, which are down seven percent this year. Arrivals from China have fallen even more sharply, thirty-five percent countrywide and double that in some places that rely on the income they generate from Chinese tourism.
Al Jazeera’s Tony Cheng reports from Chiang Mai, once a favorite among Chinese tourists.
