Gaza’s orphaned children face trauma, injuries and uncertain future amid war and healthcare collapse

Thousands of children in Gaza have lost their families and homes due to Israeli bombardments, leaving many orphaned. Al-Amal orphanage, struggling with limited resources, provides support to help them cope. Many children require urgent mental health care as they suffer from trauma, depression, and anxiety. Psychologists warn of long-term effects, including emotional apathy and post-traumatic disorders. Some, are the sole survivors of their families. With most health facilities destroyed, injured children lack proper medical care. Many now live with blast injuries, amputations, or disabilities. Displaced and traumatised, they fear what the future holds.

Al Jazeera’s Ibrahim al-Khalili reports from Gaza City.
