In an effort to distance themselves from their policies and rhetoric, Donald Trump and his administration just announced that they will be erecting statues of Black American heroes like Frederick Douglas, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Jackie Robinson, and Kobe Bryant, just to name a few. Don’t get it twisted, though; this stunt has nothing to do with recognizing and celebrating these figures’ legacies, but rather to whitewash the administration’s white nationalist policy platform.
