Israel’s resumption of its assault on Gaza will not succeed in defeating Hamas just as 16 months of war also failed to do so, says HA Hellyer, a political analyst at the Royal United Services Institute in London and the Center for American Progress in Washington, DC. “I think what you’ve seen with this recommitment of different ground forces is a desire for Tel Aviv to turn the clock back in terms of the last month or so,” Hellyer told Al Jazeera.
