Sri Lanka facing uncertainty over tariffs: US is primary destination for Island’s exports

Sri Lanka says it’s hoping to negotiate down the 44% tariff rate that President Trump has placed on its imports.

The steep new tariffs are seen as a major threat to the country’s economy- which is still recovering from recent financial and political turmoil.

Al Jazeera’s Minelle Fernandez reports from Colombo.
