The US government has removed its designation of the Syria-based Hayat Tahrir al-Sham or HTS as a “terrorist” organisation.
The group was previously known as the al-Nusra Front when it was a branch of al-Qaeda in Syria.
It was once headed by Ahmed al-Sharaa, who’s now Syria’s president.
The move comes after Trump signed an executive order a week ago to end US sanctions on Syria.
