Political solution only way to end Gaza catastrophe, says ICRC spokesperson

In an interview with Al Jazeera, Hisham Mhanna, spokesperson for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Gaza, emphasised the urgent need for a political agreement between Israel and Hamas to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza. He stated that the ICRC is ready to deliver medicine, food, and family messages to hostages and civilians but requires security guarantees and cooperation from both sides. Mhanna warned that the humanitarian crisis is worsening, with thousands of civilians killed, widespread displacement, and severe shortages of food, water, and medical supplies. He stressed that time is running out and called for immediate action to prevent further loss of life, highlighting the moral and legal imperative to end the suffering of all affected, including hostages, detainees, and Gaza’s two million civilians. The situation, he argued, demands a political solution, as the conflict’s regional escalation and prolonged devastation are unsustainable.
