A choice of current work by Brooklyn, New York-based artist Alexandra Smith. Centered round intimacy, Smith’s work provide glimpses into her romantic relationships, carnal wishes, and platonic friendships. They embody her gaze, eager for connection, and seek for vulnerability.
“These works are hedonistic daydreams and recollections,” she explains. “By reminiscence and photographic references, I spotlight moments of contact and want which ceaselessly go missed. I need to sluggish time and linger on these fleeting situations. . . I’m engrossed in depicting the multifaceted points of intimacy—the romantic, seductive, awkward, lonely, and quiet moments. Whereas these work evoke distinct reminiscences for me, additionally they strike on common motifs.”
