Hospitals in Gaza say at least 20 people have been killed after Israel continued to bombard the territory on Monday.
Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry says the number of people killed since the start of the war in October 2023 passed 58,000 over the weekend. That followed a string of attacks including one that killed six children at a water distribution point on Sunday.
The Israeli military confirmed it was a result of a “technical error” when the munition fell dozens of metres from the target. The Israel Defense Forces added it “regrets any harm to uninvolved civilians”.
Israel launched a military campaign in Gaza in response to Hamas’s cross-border attack on 7 October 2023, in which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others were taken hostage.
