All eyes were on Romania’s presidential runoff.
It was a crucial vote for the NATO member, and the centrist victory has been welcomed by the European Union and Ukraine.

But a slim lead by Warsaw’s centrist Mayor, means the country could still lean towards populism.
Perhaps the biggest change was in Portugal – where the centre-right alliance won a snap parliamentary election, as the far-right gained a record number of votes.
So can Brussels breathe a sigh of relief?
Or is the far-right still rising as a political force?
