Trump offers federal workers buyout, promises eight months severance pay as unions fight back

Trump signed an executive order to eliminate remote work and thousands of federal jobs. He proposed a “buyout offer” where federal workers could quit and receive eight months’ pay but would have to leave their jobs. Unions oppose this, calling it legally unsound and harmful to workers and the public. The administration claims 20,000 workers have agreed to quit, but experts say this won’t save enough money. Critics, including lawmakers, argue Trump has a history of failing to follow through on promises. Workers’ groups have filed lawsuits to stop the initiative, warning it could hurt Americans.
