During his first term, Trump launched a similar trade war with China, but not on this scale.
American companies such as Nike and Apple moved to Vietnam to escape tariffs and source cheaper manufacturing.
But now Vietnam is also the target of Trump’s tariff war, with steep levies of 46 percent imposed on all its exports.
The levies have tested the relationship with Washington and China is stepping in to fill the gap.
