Bodycam footage exhibits the moments earlier than Los Angeles police shot a Black man after officers acknowledged that he was unarmed.
Jermaine Petit, 39, was approached by LAPD officers responding to a name after a witness stated that they had seen a person brandishing a “black semi-automatic” weapon on 18 July.
Within the footage, an officer says “It’s not a gun, bro,” whereas approaching Mr Petit.
After an LAPD spokesperson initially stated that Mr Petit had been carrying a “weapon,” the police power retracted the assertion and stated he had been carrying a “black steel latch actuator”.
