The European Fee has requested Austria to make clear plans for a minimal airfare of €40, designed to curb CO2 emission from low-cost short-haul flights, amid concern it violated a 2008 European regulation which assured “pricing freedom” within the aviation sector. The EU supported “greening of aviation”, however this needed to be “appropriate with the interior market guidelines”, a spokesman advised Reuters. Austria’s ruling coalition first proposed the transfer final June.
