Amsterdam-based photographer Sem Langendijk explores the impacts of gentrification on marginalized communities in his latest photobook, “Haven.” Tracing his personal expertise rising up within the harbor space on the outskirts of a big metropolis, Langendijk is drawn to scenes that evoke his reminiscences of dwelling. The pictures in “Haven” weave a fictional narrative, bringing collectively the environments of varied port cities, and telling the story of a boy coming of age in a quickly altering surroundings. Step by step reaching maturity and his full potential, the boy finds himself inside a capitalist system, “the place town is not a house for a various combine of individuals, however a spot for producing income.”
