London-based photographer Laura McCLuskey’s “RAY: Moroccan Gentle” (Visitor Editions, 2020) was shot in January 2020 throughout lengthy days strolling alongside Morocco’s west coast, between Essaouia and Sidi Kaouki. With an eye fixed for gentle, texture and coloration, McCluskey’s sun-drenched photographs provide a visceral portrait of place via its particulars. Specializing in discovered objects and their solid reveals, and other people and the impressions they depart behind, the sequence explores what she describes as “the customarily fragile line between the man-made world and the pure.”
