PESHAWAR, pakistan — Pakistani police arrested 14 folks in in a single day raids after a Hindu temple was set on hearth and demolished by a mob led by supporters of a radical Islamist celebration, officers mentioned Thursday.
The temple’s destruction Wednesday within the northwestern city of Karak drew condemnation from human rights activists and the minority Hindu neighborhood.
Native police mentioned they detained no less than 14 folks in in a single day raids and extra raids have been underway to arrest people who participated or provoked the mob to demolish the temple.
The assault occurred after members of the Hindu neighborhood obtained permission from native authorities to renovate the temple. In keeping with witnesses, the mob was led by an area cleric and supporters of Pakistan’s radical Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam celebration,
Pakistan’s minister for non secular affairs, Noorul Haq Qadri, referred to as the assault on the temple “a conspiracy towards sectarian concord.” He took to Twitter Thursday, saying assaults on locations of worship of minority non secular teams will not be allowed in Islam and “safety of spiritual freedom of minorities is our non secular, constitutional, ethical and nationwide duty.”
The incident comes weeks after the federal government allowed Hindu residents to construct a brand new temple in Islamabad on the advice of a council of clerics.
Though Muslims and Hindus usually dwell peacefully collectively in Pakistan, there have been different assaults on Hindu temples in recent times. Most of Pakistan’s minority Hindus migrated to India in 1947 when India was divided by Britain’s authorities.
