A part of a sequence of performances centered on cumbersome and surreal timekeeping units, Maarten Baas’s “Sweeper’s Clock” chronicles two males as they observe every passing second with heaps of rubbish. The aerially shot movie follows the pair as they push traces of trash consultant of the minute and hour fingers round a big circle faintly outlined within the panorama, conserving time as they go.
Launched in 2009, the video piece parallels different intelligent works in Baas’s Actual Time sequence, together with a painter manually unveiling a digital show and one other exhibiting the Dutch artist trapped inside a grandfather clock. Guests to the worldwide terminal of the Amsterdam airport in 2016 had been additionally greeted with “Schiphol Clock,” an analog machine suspended from the ceiling during which a person adjusted the time by hand. “The employee’s blue overalls, yellow rag, and purple bucket pay homage to the well-known Dutch artist, Mondrian,” Baas writes.
