7 February marks the anniversary of what was a number of the worst flooding ever skilled within the southern elements of Kruger Nationwide Park 22 years in the past.
Simply as the brand new millennium was entering into gear within the 12 months 2000 a thunderous storm introduced torrential rainfall over the catchment of Kruger’s main rivers – Crocodile, Sabie, Sand and Nwaswitsontso.
Heavy rainfall resulted in document water ranges by the afternoon, with a number of camps having to shut for weeks, and even months for some. Although the storm broken infrastructure within the park, no lives have been misplaced with park staff working tirelessly behind the scenes. Greater than 300 vacationers and employees needed to be evacuated from the rivers.
