Queensland Police confirmed the boy’s physique was situated on Saibai Island yesterday afternoon, with accidents “per a crocodile assault”.
Police consider the 16-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy had been in a dinghy that had damaged down. Each tried to swim to shore.
The 13-year-old boy made it again to shore.
A search and rescue operation for the 16-year-old was launched about 4am yesterday by Thursday Island Water Police.
The boy’s physique was discovered later that afternoon.
Saibai Island is a low-lying island 4 kilometres from Papua New Guinea’s mainland.
The crocodile is believed to be 3.5 metres in size.
“The formal identification course of is underway to verify the identification of the physique, and additional testing is underway to verify the reason for loss of life,” Queensland Police stated in an announcement.
The Division of Setting, Science and Innovation (DESI) is aiding police with their inquiries.
“Wildlife officers will survey the waters off Saibai Island by helicopter this afternoon in an try and find the crocodile concerned,” DESI stated in an announcement.
“The local people has requested the animal concerned within the incident be faraway from the wild.”
DESI has given their condolences to the household and pals of {the teenager}.
The island is a part of the Torres Strait Islands archipelago and is situated within the Torres Strait, which intersects Far North Queensland and Papua New Guinea.
It’s situated 140 kilometres from the northern tip of Cape York in Queensland.
