Don’t look down! A brand new pedestrian bridge suspended 175-feet above the rocky gorge cradling the Paiva River opened in Portugal this week, and it’s now the longest of its variety. At 1,700 toes, Arouca 516 eclipses the previous record-holder, the 1,621-foot Charles Kuonen Suspension Bridge within the Swiss Alps, because it stretches throughout the UNESCO-recognized Arouca Geopark. The metal development is situated in a five-mile stretch of the gorge identified for its picket walkways, including another choice for intrepid explorers to expertise the plush surroundings.
