However gross sales volumes at family items shops dropped 2.5%, and “different non-food shops” dropped by 7%, with “some retailers suggesting the stormy climate through the month had impacted footfall”, the ONS says.
The UK was buffetted by three storms in February – Dudley, Eunice and Franklin.
February’s fall follows a 1.9% rise in retail gross sales volumes in January.
