New Jersey-based figurative painter Victoria V Nunley has all the time been drawn to narrative portray. Centered round storytelling, her dynamic works are conceptualized in layers: first theme, then composition and coloration, then humor, and at last that means. “The primary three layers are my instruments for telling a narrative,” she explains. “The underside layer, beneath all of it, is the place the viewer (and myself) arrive at what the story is about.”
In her latest work, Nunley wished to inform a narrative about feeling unhealthy. “Particularly, I wished to inform a narrative about wrestling with feelings that time their finger again at their holder,” she says. “Feelings like disgrace and guilt and bitterness. Feelings that damage your pleasure. Feelings that guarantee you that you just did this to your self. Possibly you noticed the fireplace, however put your arms in it anyway, and in some way meaning you deserved getting damage.” A solo protagonist confronts varied struggles, with exterior conflicts serving as visible metaphors for those she grapples with internally — “And so, I’m telling a narrative about our lone hero wrestling and coping and struggling till she feels okay once more.”
