Volunteers rushed to rescue three sacred Torah scrolls buried beneath the rubble of a destroyed synagogue after it burned down in upstate New York.
Members of a volunteer security patrol bumped into the charred constructing to dig out a protected containing the holy texts after Rockland County firefighters put out the flames.
A hearth engulfed the Chassidim of the Heights temple on Wednesday 17 April.
The group spent greater than an hour working to free the protected, reducing it with a buzzsaw and prying it open with crowbars to succeed in the holy scrolls and safe them.
Two of the three scrolls suffered extreme harm on account of the blaze and the efforts to place it out.
Authorities haven’t stated what sparked the synagogue blaze, however confirmed there have been no accidents.
