In Nicholas Moegly’s shadow-laden illustrations, wild animals descend on backyards and unoccupied streets illuminated by synthetic lights. The Cincinnati-based artist largely focuses on the quiet, mundane landscapes of Midwestern suburbia, though every of his works options surreal particulars that shroud the scenes in thriller: a lamp with no obvious electrical energy supply lies haphazardly on the sidewalk, an empty automobile veers off a driveway with headlights nonetheless shining, and deer nibble on grass surprisingly near a small tent.
Nostalgic and born out of city isolation, the continuing collection contrasts the pure and manufactured and acquainted and unknown, themes impressed by the continuing pandemic. “My profession used to primarily consist of making gig/tour posters for bigger bands, however in early 2020 when live shows have been all canceled, so was all of my work. With nothing else to do, I started taking nightly walks round my city and the inspiration for my present work was discovered,” the artist shares.
Prints of the illustrated collection are at present bought out, so keep watch over Moegly’s Instagram for information concerning the limited-edition work he’ll be releasing in his store later this month.
