An Ohio lady allegedly struck regulation enforcement officers after “throwing eggs and a lifeless raccoon” at an abortion clinic.
The Akron Beacon Journal reported that the incident occurred on the Northeast Ohio Ladies’s Middle in Cuyahoga Falls on 15 August. The girl, later recognized as Melissa Strelec, threw the eggs at volunteer escorts who in flip shielded themselves with umbrellas.
Surveillance video obtained by the Journal reveals Ms Strelec leaving the clinic in her car.
An hour later, she returned and allegedly left a bag on the clinic’s entrance door. Workers barely opened the bag and noticed the lifeless raccoon inside.
“We actually didn’t know if it was an explosive or what it was,” a volunteer who selected to stay nameless advised the Journal. “We had been panicked.”
“There [were] flies throughout it and it smelled horrible. It was nerve-wracking and actually scary,” medical assistant Krista Mills advised the Journal.
Police reportedly confronted the lady after Ms Strelec fled the scene for a second time. She reportedly turned combative and “struck officers.”
Ms Strelec has since been charged with prison mischief and littering in Stow Municipal Court docket.
Clinic staff and volunteers advised the Journal mentioned that following the Supreme Court docket’s overruling in June of the landmark Roe v Wade ruling, assaults on employees had risen.
“There’s slightly extra anger now as a result of they assumed we might shut, and that’s not the case,” clinic director Dr David Burkons advised the outlet. “They thought [this] could be it for us, so that they’re indignant we’re nonetheless right here.”
